As part of the redesign of the ZOB / Europaplatz in Tübingen, an area of 7,000 square metres was uncovered in spring 2024. This area will initially be planned and then built on in the coming years. For the interim period, a masterplan has been developed for a versatile interim use that offers a wide range of utilisation options for appropriation and participation.
The temporary plan includes a stage for concerts and events, several play and sports fields, seating and recreational areas, a climbing course, an outdoor gallery and the "Ausguck" lookout point, which was created in 2021. In addition, two large planted indentations have been integrated into the tarmac surface and a hop grove has been installed to improve the quality of stay, especially in the summer months.
We set artistic accents with various floor paintings that are distributed across the entire square. An asymmetrical zebra crossing shows the quickest route to the Tübingen central bus station, while a basketball and badminton court with geometric patterns invites people to get active. Various coloured dots and areas also mark places to linger and relax.
This creative and functional approach to the interim utilisation of Europaplatz creates space for activities and encounters and also increases the attractiveness and quality of life of the public space.
